Two honest tiers of evidence

Papers I–III don't assert a configuration works — they separate what conservation law can screen now from what still needs physical evidence. Choose a shot below. Tier A runs two deposited conservation screens live and gives an honest pass/fail; four further quantities are reported as read-outs, not gates. Tier B is the eight development gates P1–P8, held open until test evidence retires them. A 1,000 km/s reference shot passes the conservation screens and is screening-feasible, pending gates P1–P8 — there is no thermal or velocity cap anywhere in the papers.

Illustrative screening, non-operational. Conservation-law and parametric relations for a hypothetical planetary-defence research system — no targeting, firing logic, pulsed-power or buildable design. The Tier-A screens use the tested v1.2.0 relations; the Tier-B gates P1–P8 are quoted from Paper I §9 and shown as open, evidence-pending — not live pass/fail.

Configuration

One shot through the screens
Reference family (iso-energy, 150 GJ)

Conservation screens

Two hard screens, pass/fail — the only live disqualifiers
Reported attributes — read-outs, not gates
Tier B · open — require test evidence

Development gates P1–P8 (Paper I §9)

These are not live pass/fail. Each is an open gate awaiting physical evidence; a configuration that clears Tier A is "screening-feasible, pending P1–P8." Below each gate is its required evidence and its stop / redesign condition — the finding that would send the design back.

The projectile is a functional-material architecture, not a doped monolith: a structural core and segmented load path carry the load, with a thin, spatially graded boron-doped-diamond (BDD) surface only where electronic function is required. Gate P1 compares a matched material set — diamond, BDD, diamond-SiC, toughened SiC, boron carbide, tungsten and a carbon-rich sacrificial layer — and stops if no candidate yields a qualified load path or functional layer; the papers do not claim that a uniformly doped diamond monolith preserves undoped strength, and measured heavy boron doping can reduce elastic constants, hardness and thermal conductivity.
P1
Matched material set Open · awaiting evidence
Required evidence: measured strength, conductivity, fracture and failure statistics across diamond, BDD, diamond-SiC, SiC, B4C, W and a carbon-rich layer
Stop / redesign: no qualified load path or functional layer
P2
Collar coupon and load spreader Open · awaiting evidence
Required evidence: field coupling, areal mass and force transfer
Stop / redesign: mass budget or stress cannot close
P3
Representative electromagnetic cell Open · awaiting evidence
Required evidence: measured M(x), force, efficiency, stability and loss
Stop / redesign: topology cannot approach the declared duty with margin
P4
Pulse-store module Open · awaiting evidence
Required evidence: energy, power, inductance, life and fault containment
Stop / redesign: extrapolated installation is incompatible with deployment
P5
Accelerated subscale assembly Open · awaiting evidence
Required evidence: centring, telemetry and release covariance
Stop / redesign: uncontrolled separation or structural failure
P6
Dust/gas exposure article Open · awaiting evidence
Required evidence: material-specific crater, plasma, charge and dynamic-fracture thresholds
Stop / redesign: no credible flight-survival envelope
P7
Trajectory environment model Open · awaiting evidence
Required evidence: particle-frame fluence, Poisson critical-hit and compound cumulative-damage probability
Stop / redesign: survival requirement not met
P8
Impact campaign Open · awaiting evidence
Required evidence: validated response across target classes
Stop / redesign: no defensible effect envelope
Gate order matters: results stand only at the conservation level. A 1,000 km/s shot that clears the Tier-A screens is screening-feasible, pending P1–P8 — and the 1,000 km/s reference point is reduced or withdrawn only if a lower-level gate shows no scalable path (Paper I §9). Passing one gate does not validate the next.
Provenance: Tier-A screens and reported attributes are computed from the deposited v1.2.0 relations (argus_pd_repro/argus_model.py) — E_k, ideal Maxwell field, installed nameplate, required coupling area, 0.5 AU flight time and the covariance miss-σ. Tier-B gates P1–P8 are quoted verbatim from Paper I §9. Conservation-law consistent and parametrically expressible; NOT engineering-demonstrated, mission-certified, costed or ready for procurement. Not a controller or launcher design.
